3 Step Perfect-It™ EX Finishing Process
Step 1: Compounding
Remove sand scratches completely in the shortest amount of time:
- For fastest cut and less heat, use 3M™ Perfect-It™ EX Rubbing Compound and a 3M™ Perfect-It™ 100% Wool Compounding pad
- To reduce lint and achieve a better finish, use 3M™ Perfect-It™ EX Rubbing Compound and a 3M™ Perfect-It™ Low Lint Compounding pad
- Eliminate lint and achieve the finest finish by using using 3M™ Perfect-It™ EX Rubbing Compound and a 3M™ Perfect-It™ Foam Compounding Pad
* Tech Tip
- If during the scratch refinement process you used the 3M™ Trizact™ Hookit™ Foam 5000 grade disc, you can skip wool and go directly to the 3M™ Perfect-It™ Quick Connect White Foam Compounding Pad
Step 2: Polishing
Remove compound swirl marks:
- Quickly and effectively remove compound swirl marks and produce an outstanding finish by using 3M™ Perfect-It™ EX Machine Polish and a 3M™ Perfect-It™ Foam Polishing Pad

Step 3: Swirl Elimination
Permanently eliminate fine swirl marks:
- Eliminate fine swirl marks and produce a high gloss finish, even on the most difficult dark coloured vehicles by using 3M™ Perfect-It™ EX Ultrafine Machine Polish and a 3M™ Perfect-It™ Foam Ultrafine Polishing Pad
Defect Removal and Scratch Refinement
- Remove dirt nibs and level excess surface texture over large or small areas
- Use dry to highlight surface defects
- Sand out highlighted defects and match surface texture
Scratch Refinement
- Refine the scratches left after defect removal to reduce compounding time
- Use to reduce compounding time
- Dampen disc and entire area to be sanded with a spray bottle of water
Additional Scratch Refinement
- Reduce buffing time with further scratch refinement
- Use to further reduce compounding time
- Dampen disc and entire area to be sanded with a spray bottle
